编辑寄语
受疫情影响，自3月16日起，大纽约地区学校陆续关闭，孩子们在家，除了上网课外，各种活动受到限制。如何帮助孩子们度过这个非常时期的枯燥生活，让家长们十分操心。惠言先生在征得参与创作者和组织者同意后，主动向我们编辑部提议，把他正在筹划出版的《惠言童话》18篇绘画本稿子赠给我们网站连载，可以让孩子们在网上看到和听到这些故事，有助于提高他们的中文阅读和听力水平。
故事文稿是基于惠言先生前几年在《世界日报》上发表的故事修改的，中美两地34个孩子们参加了插画稿创作，上海五里桥文化中心张炜玮主任组织“音之魅”诵读沙龙的语言艺术家们创作了9个朗诵作品。希望这些生动有趣的故事、童趣洋溢的图画和美妙的朗诵艺术作品，能伴随孩子们度过新冠疫情这个困难时期。对此，我们向惠言先生；英文稿的校阅者Jason Kenny先生和赵蒙皓女士；上海五里桥文化中心及“音之魅”诵读沙龙语言艺术家们；参与画稿创作的孩子们及其家长表示衷心感谢！

一只海豚从印度洋来到红海，找不到合适的渔场，肚子饿了，到海岸边来觅食。海豚看到一只大腹便便的海龟在岸边游弋，就向海龟问路：“渔场在哪里？”海龟见来了一个陌生客，便告诉海豚：“在红海深处，比较远，大约有五十海里，我平日就住在那里。”
A dolphin came to the Red Sea from the Indian Ocean. He couldn’t find a school of fish. He was hungry and went to the coast looking for food. The dolphin spied a sea turtle with a big belly swimming along the shore. He asked the turtle, “Do you happen to know a place where there are lots of fish?” “It is faraway in the center of the Red Sea, about fifty nautical miles out, I live there.” The turtle realized that the dolphin was a stranger, and happily gave him the information.
海豚笑着说：“那点路不算远，我游的快，个把小时就到。”海龟把去往那里的路线一五一十地告诉海豚，海豚听后，有点晕头转向，於是求海龟：“我初来乍到，不了解地形。能否帮忙带个路？”海龟迟疑了一下，点头同意为海豚带路。
The dolphin chuckled, “Not that far for me. I can get there in only an hour.” The turtle attempted to tell the dolphin the exact route turn by turn, but the dolphin was very confused, so he asked the turtle, “I am new here and don’t know the area. Can you please help me to find the way?” Reluctantly, the turtle agreed.
海龟鼓着大肚在前面游，海豚在后面跟。海豚发现海龟游得慢，便说：“按这个速度，天黑也到不了。我驮着你走，好不好？”海龟看日头偏西，答道：“好吧，试试看。”
The turtle began to lead the way towards the place with lots of fish. But the turtle was very slow. After a while, the dolphin proposed, “At this speed, we will not be there before dark. Shall I carry you on my back? ” Looking at the sun sinking low in the sky, the turtle answered, “Okay, let’s try it.”
於是海龟爬到海豚背部，用四肢紧紧抱着海豚，但是海豚一加速度，海龟就从海豚身上滑下来。海豚灵机一动，想出个办法：“你身体上下有厚厚的甲板，我用嘴咬着你走，伤不着你。”海龟听后就说：“你牙齿虽小但是很尖，别咬得太重。” 海豚说：“没问题。”
The turtle climbed onto the dolphin’s back and held on as tight as she could, but the moment the dolphin began to speed up, the turtle slid off. The dolphin thought about it for a while, and came up with a solution: “Your shell is very thick.” The dolphin said. “It is so thick, that if I carried you in my mouth, I wouldn’t hurt you.” When the turtle heard this, she said, “Ok, your teeth are small but sharp, please be careful with me.” “No problem,” replied the dolphin.
海豚张嘴衔住海龟，按照海龟指引的路线加速前进，一个多小时后，来到一个地方。夕阳映照下，海底珊瑚礁奇形怪状，色彩艳丽，水草丰满，鱼群众多，果然是个好渔场。
The dolphin opened his mouth and held the turtle. He sped along the route with the guidance of the turtle. About an hour later, they came to the place with lots of fish. In the last fading rays of sun, the coral on the sea floor shimmered with a myriad of beautiful colors. Hundreds of fish were resting in the coral or swimming near the surface of the water. It was really a good living place for dolphin.
海龟见海豚喜欢此地，便说：“我的任务完成了，现在要回到岸边。” 海豚不解地问：“这是你常住的地方，为什么来了就走呢？”海龟回答：“不瞒你说，我方才是在物色下蛋的沙滩。看你人生地不熟，怕你找不到地方，肚子饿得慌，先把你带来。现在任务完成，我要回到岸边。”
When they got there, the turtle said, “My mission is complete. Now I have to go back to the shore.” The dolphin asked in confusion, “This is the place where you live. Why do you wish to leave when you only just got back?” “To tell you the truth, I was looking for the beach where I would lay my eggs when I met you.”, the turtle replied. “Seeing that you were not familiar with this place, I was afraid that you would go hungry, so I brought you here first. Now that you are here, I will return to the shore.”
海豚为海龟的好心肠所感动，赶紧说：“我把你送回去。”海龟说：“你饿了，快用餐吧，我自己游回去。” 海豚坚持说：“这段路，你自己游要大半天。我怕天黑后，你找不到合适地方，耽误产卵。”
The dolphin was moved by the turtle’s kindness, so he told the turtle, “I’ll bring you back.” The turtle refused, “You are hungry, so go ahead and eat. I can swim back on my own.” The dolphin insisted, “You’ll swim for more than a day if you go alone. I’m afraid that after dark, you won’t find the right place to lay eggs.”
海豚知道海龟肚子里有蛋，小心翼翼地把海龟含在嘴里，在天黑前把海龟送回岸边。
The turtle agreed, so the dolphin carefully picked up the turtle in his mouth and set off towards the shore.
海豚帮海龟找到合适的产卵地，夜幕已经降临，看着海龟爬上沙滩挖坑，海豚这才借助月光，全速赶往渔场。
When they got there, the dolphin helped the turtle find the right place to lay her eggs. There, the dolphin watched as the turtle climbed the beach and dug pits in the sand. Satisfied that the turtle was settled safely, the dolphin rushed back to the place with lots of fish under the full moon.

退休水处理专业工程师，退休后撰写《惠言童话故事》和生活杂记。1946年生于中国浙江省慈溪市，1950年后在上海完成小学和中学。1968年9月毕业于北京清华大学土建系给排水专业。1994年3月在美国犹他州立大学获土木和环境工程硕士学位。长期从事水处理领域科学研究、工程设计和项目管理。
赵蒙皓
资深跨国教育及文化咨询师。曾在纽约市举世闻名的K-12年制道尔顿学校(The Dalton School)任教多年，并曾任美国名校纽约大学（NYU）的客座教授。上海外国语学院，对外汉语系肄业；美国明德大学（Middlebury College），经济学及日本文学文学双学士；美国马里兰大学商学院（University of Maryland）工商管理硕士。

女，时年9岁，在慈溪市观海卫镇文棋小学读书，二年级。这是第一次参与《海豚与海龟》九幅插画创作，很开心。绘画指导：“我绘艺术教育”邵玲老师。
